Notice Period and Legal Basis (Civil Code § 827)
Under California Civil Code § 827:
1. For rent increases of 10 percent or less in any 12-month period, the landlord must provide the tenant with at least 30 days' written notice before the increase takes effect.
2. For rent increases greater than 10 percent in any 12-month period, the landlord must provide at least 90 days' written notice before the increase takes effect.
3. The notice must be in writing and must specify the amount of the rent increase and the date it will take effect.
